WWII Window Installation
Environmental &
Publication Design
The WWII Window Installation is an environmental design piece that showcases type and imagery pertaining to my grandfather and his military documentation. The goal of the installation was to create a design solution that depicts a strong feeling,
mine being the feeling of “reverence.”
This piece is special to me for a couple different reasons, one being it was an introduction to environmental design and I was able to make the memory of my grandfather tangible. The traits of the installation space reminded me of military shadowboxes, and that concept helped guide the development of the design. An interesting element of the space is the window itself and how light would play a factor in the design. I wanted to take advantage of this, and did so by making his image front and center. Ain the morning, the sunrise would illuminate the image and make it very present, while sunset lighting would make the imagery more subtle.
Aside from the opportunity to explore environmental design more, this project also made me more mindful of installing and creating design solutions that are more conducive for materials.
