Objective
Choose a feeling and develop a design solution that portrays it in a recessed window space.
Feeling: Reverence
Overview
The WWII project is an environmental design installation that blends type and imagery into physical space. The feeling I chose was reverence and my concept was to depict content about my grandfather and his military experience. My grandfather was part of the Normandy D-Day landings, and I thought that would be interesting to commemorate.
This piece is special to me for a couple reasons. First, it was an introduction to environmental design and the process of creating a solution for a space. Second, my grandfather passed before I had a chance to meet him. My time developing the project felt like it was a way to get to know him and his military experience better.
The physical space provided the idea of a design influenced by natural light. Depending on the time of day, different amounts of light would come through and illuminate the installation. I wanted to take advantage of the lighting to make the prevalence of my
grandfathers image vary through opacity shifts..
Aside from an opportunity to further explore environmental design, this project helped me become more mindful of creating design solutions with materials in mind, as well becoming familiar with installation techniques.
